Help make social care better – share your thoughts

Posted by: and , Posted on: - Categories: Care and support, Carers, Guest author, Uncategorised

As people working in care, we dedicate our time to supporting others. But we must also ensure that fellow care workers are valued in return. That means having the right working conditions, being fairly rewarded, sharing best practice, and building a structure that makes a career in adult social care deeply fulfilling.

The Government is introducing the first ever Fair Pay Agreement and has updated and expanded the Care Workforce Pathway, the new universal career structure for adult social care. We are also investing up to £12 million in the 2025/26 financial year to fund training through the Learning and Development Support Scheme.

In this blog, Oonagh Smyth, CEO of Skills for Care, highlights how you can make a difference and help build towards the National Care Service by responding to the Adult Social Care Workforce Survey.

Do you work in adult social care? Your voice matters now more than ever. By taking part in the Adult Social Care Workforce Survey, you’ll help shape crucial government decisions and improve support for yourself and your colleagues.

At Skills for Care, we see the passion and dedication people like you bring to your work every day. You are part of a valued community of professionals who have chosen to make a real difference. Your commitment empowers people to live independently, enhances their wellbeing, and creates lasting, meaningful bonds with those you support.

It is important you get to say what is working well and what you think needs to change. You know best what it’s like to work in care every day. Your ideas and experiences can help make things better for everyone.

Complete the Adult Social Care Workforce Survey

This survey is the chance for you to share your thoughts with the government to make a difference for people working in adult social care. You can talk about things like:

  • your pay, contract and working conditions
  • your wellbeing
  • training and learning
  • how well people work together

Your feedback truly makes a difference. The last time we ran this survey in 2023, over 7,000 people took part. Their answers have already contributed to policy development on big changes, like the first ever Fair Pay Agreement for adult social care.

Alongside the upcoming consultation on Fair Pay Agreements, this survey is an opportunity for your views and experiences to feed into this and other policy initiatives. What you share will also help us build towards the new National Care Service.

Who can take part?

This survey is open to anyone who works in a care-related role in adult social care – no matter what your job is. That includes personal assistants too. The more people who take part, the better we can understand what it’s really like to work in care.

If you’re a manager, supervisor or help hire staff, please share the survey with your team too.

This survey was created in partnership with Skills for Care, Department of Health and Social Care, Ipsos and the University of Kent.
