If you are tasked with the job of improving your patients’ health and the health of your population, or you are responsible for reducing A&E admissions, outpatient visits and general practice consultations, then book your place at the 16th annual Self Care Conference in London on 10 November 2014, recommends Professor Ian Banks…

The Self Care Forum, which is the national UK organisation dedicated to helping people take care of their own health, is hosting the conference and I have the privilege of chairing the event. The conference is free to those working in the NHS and in local authorities who have responsibility for improving the health and wellbeing of their patients and local residents.

Engagement is the theme for this year's conference which will delve into the fully engaged scenario as visualised by Sir Derek Wanless in his 2002 Wanless Review. Sir Derek predicted self care could save the NHS £30 billion.

The conference, which is called ‘Can Self Care plug the £30bn NHS gap?’ will showcase expert presentations, debates and will provide solutions and inspiration on empowering and engaging patients and the public in their health.

On a daily basis we are bombarded with troubling headlines about the NHS, such as: “NHS needs 6.2m additional bed days”, “GP consultation rates double in 7 years”, “our growing elderly population is overwhelming the NHS”. Self care is part of the solution to address all these problems, so join us and join the conversation.

Book your free place by registering with Lorraine.berry@pagb.co.uk or for more information email libby.whittaker@selfcareforum.org
